PIKU® rootstocks for

sweet cherries

PIKU® 1(S)

Semi dwarfing rootstock with high yielding potential.

PIKU®3(S)

Vigorous rootstock for extensive orchards.

PIKU®4(S)

Rootstock for dry and sandy sites.

PIKU®1(S) - Semi dwarfing rootstock with high yielding potential

Parentage:

Prunus avium x (Prunus canescens x Prunus tomentosa)

Growth reduction often starts only after some years in the orchard and amounts to about 30-45% in comparison to Prunus avium seedling. PIKU®1(S) performs well on light soils without irrigation, especially with respect to fruit size.

Pruning, fertilization and irrigation have to be managed depending on site and cultivar to maintain high yields and good fruit size.

PIKU®3(S) - Vigorous rootstock for extensive orchards

Parentage:

Prunus pseudocerasus x (Prunus canescens x Prunus incisa)

PIKU®3(S) is a vigorous rootstock with only little size reduction compared to Prunus avium seedling. Irrigation is not required. The advantages are regular high yields over many years. Necessary pruning efforts are less than on more dwarfing rootstocks.

PIKU®4(S) - Rootstock for dry and sandy sites

Parentage:

Prunus cerasus „Schattenmorelle“ x Prunus Kursar (= Prunus kurilensis x Prunus sargentii)

PIKU®4(S) is dwarfing to semi-dwarfing (35 – 40% reduction of growth in comparison to Prunus avium seedling) and induces high yields. With respect to yield and fruit size, this rootstock has performed especially well dry and sandy sites without irrigation.
